From the principal

Q. What are the biggest challenges this year?

A. Our biggest challenges are students with irregular attendance and academic apathy. Staff, along with student groups such as Student Government Association and Key Club, work together to help to get students connected to an interest at school. For some students, we cannot impact their choice to not achieve academically. North High is moving to a "Small Learning Community" model.

Q. What are your goals for the school year?

A. North Hagerstown High School will continue to assist with moving students toward more academic rigor. Our success will be measured through AP takers and scores, SAT scores, HSA/MSA data, and attendance success.

Q. What will help ensure a successful school year?

A. Well-behaved goal-oriented students who attend school every day.

Q. What message would you like to send as the school year begins?

A. High school is a time in a student's life when parents must continue to be vigilant to ensure that students are taking courses as rigorous as possible. This four years of high school prepares students for the world of further education and/or employment. It is imperative that each student takes advantage of this opportunity. Parents must also be vigilant that their student maintains the rules and curfews established by the family.

Q. What special projects will occur during the school year?

A. This will be the first year that 11th grade students are enrolled in International Baccalaureate Programe courses. Ninth and tenth grade students have had individual schedules done to ensure that they will be prepared in grade 11 for the International Baccalaureate Programe.

North Hagerstown High School stadium committee is excited about the possibility of opening the new Callas Stadium in mid- to late September. Many people have devoted much time, resources and energy to this magnificent project. Actually having athletic contests on that field will fulfill a 50-year dream.
