Pa. man, 25, killed in wreck

August 18, 2006

A 25-year-old Harrisonville, Pa., man was killed and three Greencastle, Pa., men were seriously injured this morning when the car in which they were riding crashed on Williamson Road north of Greencastle, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

William Joseph Swisher, the driver of the 1992 Acura Integra RS, was pronounced dead at the scene of the reported 2:13 a.m. accident in the 3100 block of Williamson Road, a curvy and hilly road that runs between Greencastle and Williamson, said Cpl. D. Lyons.

Swisher and his passengers, Ronald E. Parsons Jr., 30, Michael Scott Hager, 23, and a 17-year-old, were not wearing their seatbelts, but that did not factor into Swisher's death, police said.

Swisher was driving north "at a high rate of speed" and was unable to negotiate a left curve, sending the car into the west berm of the road, police said. While on the berm, the passenger front tire deflated, causing its rim to dig into the front lawn of 3132 Williamson Road, flipping the car clockwise into a large tree, police said.

Parsons was able to get out of the car. Hager and the 17-year-old had to be extricated from the vehicle and Swisher was pronounced dead, police said.

Lyons said the car was not being raced on the road. "It was just one vehicle," she said.
