Adenhart to pitch in Olympic qualifier

August 17, 2006

Nick Adenhart is going international.

Adenhart, a Williamsport High School graduate, was selected to pitch for the U.S. Olympic team in a qualifying tournament, which will begin Aug. 25 in Cuba.

Adenhart has pitched for the Los Angeles Angels' Class A teams in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., after spending last year rehabilitating from Tommy John surgery. He is 15-4 overall with a 2.56 ERA.

Adenhart, who was projected to be one off the top players chosen in the 2004 amateur draft until his injury, will join a number of professional baseball's top prospects to qualify the U.S. for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
