53 give blood in Maugansville

On June 26, the Maugansville Ruritan Club hosted its fourth Red Cross blood drive of the year in the Ruritan community center. Fifty-three donors attended the drive to give blood. Those donors marking milestones were: Nelson Turner (21 gallons), Durrel Horst (3 gallons) and Delwin Martin (1 gallon). The Ruritan Club and the Red Cross thank all who took time to give. The club will host its next blood drive on Monday, Aug. 21, in the community center from 2 to 7 p.m.

Back to School Night at Western Heights

Western Heights Middle School will hold Back to School Night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22. All parents and students are invited to visit the school. Light refreshments will be served.

First day, Aug. 23

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 23. Be sure to make extra time available for this busy travel morning and be extra careful. Watch out for kids and school buses.


Bingo chips sought

Western Heights Middle School would like to have your unwanted bingo chips. They are still saving "Boxtops for Education" from your favorite packaged foods. If you don't have a student to send them in to the school with, call 301-745-6433 to arrange a pick up of the items.

Inkjet cartridges

Maugansville Elementary School is still collecting printer inkjet cartridges for recycling.

Pride Day Sept. 2

Maugansville Pride Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ruritan Community park and building. There will be lots of food, friendship and fun. Free entertainment, peanut oil fries, country ham sandwiches, funnel cakes and lots of craft vendors will be featured. We hope to see you there.

Sports stuff for sale

There will be a Sportsman's Yard Sale at the North American Rod and Gun Club off Jefferson Boulevard on Belvedere Road on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. All types of sporting goods will be for sale and a bake table will be available, too.
