Entertainment, demonstrations among Williamsport Days events

August 16, 2006

WILLIAMSPORT - This year marks the first time for Williamsport Days, but the people who attend might find it familiar.

"For 29 years, the event was known as Williamsport/C&O Canal Days," said Town Councilman Jeff Cline, one of the organizers of this year's event, which starts Aug. 20 with a bike race and proceeds into three days of activities, Aug. 24 to 26.

There will be food, music, vendors, tours and other activities designed to appeal to all ages.

Sponsored by the Town of Williamsport, the organizing committee includes Mayor James. G. McCleaf II, Jim and Pam Black, Cline and others, totaling about 30 volunteers.

"We have had much stronger participation from the National Park Service this year," Cline said. Many of the activities will be centered around the C&O Canal at the Cushwa Basin.
