Ehrlich honors foster parents

August 16, 2006

FREDERICK, Md. - At a Cabinet meeting held in Frederick on July 10, Gov. Robert Ehrlich recognized five foster-care parents from Washington County for opening their homes to children through the Washington County Department of Social Services.

Mary Snyder, who was licensed in 2003, has fostered 16 children as a single parent. Christine and Dwight Diller, new foster parents for 2006, have three foster children. Donna and Arnold Eby have fostered 22 children since 2002. Arnold Eby is vice president of the Maryland Foster Parent Association. All three families live in Hagerstown.

In May, the governor announced the kickoff of a statewide foster parent recruitment campaign that will last through October. There is a significant need for foster care parents in some jurisdictions in Maryland.

Those interested in being a foster care parent can contact the Washington County Department of Social Services at 240-420-2100 or go to www.valpak.com on the Web and click on "professional services" for more information.
