CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Bob O'Connor will sign his book "The Perfect Steel Trap, Harpers Ferry 1859" from 5 to 8 p.m. today, at Weis Market in Chambersburg.




Most beautiful people sought for county program



Celebrating 20 years of honoring volunteers in Maryland, the Maryland You Are Beautiful Program in Washington County is accepting nominations for the 20th annual "Maryland's Most Beautiful People" volunteer awards. The local Washington County program, sponsored by the Washington County Board of County Commissioners is titled "Washington County's Most Wonderful Citizens."

Deadline for nominations is Friday, Aug. 18. The nominations can be picked up at the County Commissioners' office in the County Administration Building, 100 W. Washington St., or at the Visitor Welcome Center in downtown Hagerstown. The forms can be turned in at the County Commissioners' office.

All Washington County nominees will be honored at a local ceremony at noon Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Best Western Grand Venice Hotel. One nominee will then be selected to represent the county at a statewide awards ceremony sponsored by the Maryland Office of Tourism and Maryland Life magazine on Thursday, Nov. 2, in Baltimore.

The local coordinators for the Washington County program are Tom Riford of the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Julie Cade of the Washington County Board of County Commissioners.
