Standing out

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - When the time came for band members to choose a name, they didn't want any clichd three-letter band name "or some emo prepositional phrase," said Alex Bricker, the 21-year-old guitarist for Marsiglia.

They also didn't want a name that would pigeonhole their sound. "Marsiglia is a little different than 'Turbo Death Destroyer 3000,'" said Ryan Eshleman, Marsiglia's lead singer.

So how did the five-man rock group from Chambersburg, Pa., get its name?

"It came from a bottle of soap," Bricker explained. "I thought it was ironic because we're all kind of dirty kids."

The band's name is pronounced Mar-SEE-yee-uh, band members said.

Summertime has been a busy time for the rock group. Marsiglia is gearing up for a show at the Broad Axe later this month. The group also is putting the finishing touches on a six-track EP, "The Sidecar Larry," which the group hopes to release this fall.

As for what to expect, Bricker said listeners will get the "universally good stuff that even the very pretentious can get off his high horse and enjoy."
