Man assaulted, robbed and thrown from moving vehicle

August 14, 2006

A man was assaulted and robbed Saturday as he rode with a friend south of Hagerstown, then was pushed from the moving vehicle, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.

The man reported that a friend gave him a ride, but other people he didn't know also were in the vehicle, Lt. Tim Baker said.

After riding for about a mile, the other people in the vehicle assaulted and used a cattle prod on him in the 19300 block of Bettys Avenue, off Roxbury Road, Baker said.

After stealing a few hundred dollars and a cell phone from the man, they pushed him from the vehicle, dragging him for a few hundred feet, Baker said.

Police received a call about the incident at 5:12 p.m. Saturday, Baker said. By Sunday night, they had arrested one person, but the investigation was continuing, he said. Baker said he could not release the name of the person arrested in the case.
