Children's Village

Children's Village of Washington County, Inc. will host its 12th annual "Keep our Kids Safe" Four Man Scramble Golf Classic on Friday, Sept. 8, at Black Rock Golf Course.

Putting contest begins at 11 a.m.; shotgun start at noon. Dinner will follow the tournament. Entry fee is $95 per person. Corporate sponsor packages are available. Hole and cart sponsors can also support the event.

Midas Muffler of Hagers-town is the tournament sponsor. Volvo Powertrain North America is lead sponsor, with Douglas Motors of Hancock sponsoring the hole-in-one prize car.


Register by calling Children's Village at 301-733-4443. All proceeds benefit the Children's Village life-safety education program.

Children's Village of is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing free life-safety education to elementary school children in Washington County.

Pen Mar Park

The Pen Mar Park 2006 Summer Series features VO/DUO this Sunday. This couple, from Elizabeth, Pa., played at Pen Mar Park for the first time last year.

They were so well received that Local 770 had lots of requests to bring them back this year. Plan to be at Pen Mar Park this Sunday and enjoy the variety of music provided by this couple. The event will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. The concert is free but donations are appreciated. See you this Sunday!

Annual yard sale

The annual Christ Lutheran Church yard sale will be ehld Aug. 18-19, starting at 8 a.m. each day.

Food will be for sale, including homemade soups, hot dogs, steamers and sodas. The Chewsville Lions will be selling country ham sandwiches and baked goods will be available.

Friday, Aug. 18 - Exercise, 9:30 a.m.; Movie and Popcorn Part II, 10 a.m.

The Smithsburg Senior Site is at 29 Blue Mountain Estates, Smithsburg.


Hagerstown Community College hosts the 6th annual Lollipopalooza on Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Alumni Amphitheater from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come out and celebrate summer with this free event, featuring children's music, face painting, and inflatable slides.

The event is sponsored by HCC Student Government Association. Donations of school supplies will be accepted for Children In Need, Inc. Please bring a blanket if you'd like to sit in the grass. The concession stand will be open for snacks and drinks.
