Duck Derby set for Aug. 20

August 11, 2006

GREENCASTLE, PA. - The number of ducks bobbing in Conococheague Creek on Aug. 20 is set to increase - by the thousands.

The American Cancer Society Duck Derby starts at 1 p.m. that day, and offers a number of cash prizes for contestants who can buy rubber ducks beforehand or that day. The event typically raises between $10,000 and $15,000.

"This (money) stays in Franklin and Fulton counties," Russ Clever said. "It's a local thing."

Clever and his wife, Dody, again are serving as masters of ceremonies for the event as Two Nuts & A Bolt.

Ducks are being sold at several businesses displaying posters. They also will be sold Saturday at the Greencastle Sportsman's Association ox roast, and next week at the Mercersburg Lions Community Fair.

The ducks take to the waters by the Greencastle Sportsman's Farm off Williamson Road in Antrim Township.
