Maugansville Pride Day set for Sept. 2

The Maugansville Ruritan will be sponsoring Maugansville Pride Day on Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Ruritan Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be craft vendors, homemade food and entertainment. Maugansville Goodwill Fire Co. will be selling fresh cut, peanut oil fries. Maugansville Creamery will have delicious Hershey's ice cream and funnel cakes will be avialable. Plan to come spend the day! To reserve space as a vendor, contact 301-739-9221.

Yard sale planned

There will be a Sportsman's Yard Sale at the North American Rod and Gun Club off Jefferson Boulevard on Belvedere Road on Staurday, Aug. 26, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. All types of sporting goods will be for sale or trade. The public is invited.

Care packages

The Ladies of the Elks Lodge 378 is having a Care Package Drive. They are collecting numerous items for our women soldiers in Iraq. For more information or if you would like to make a donation to this worthwhile cause, call 301-733-8408 or 301-733-8849. Some of the items needed:

Tic Tac, gum, trail mix, individual powdered drink mix, mouth wash, toothpaste, tooth brush, lip balm, hair brush, lady's comb, emory boards, nail polish, pocket tissue packs, deodorant, hand lotion, sanitary napkins, panty liners, feminine wipes, white socks, slippers, either terry cloth or crocheted, mild laundry detergent, stationery or disposable cameras.

In October, all items will be taken to the Dover Air Force Base for shipping and distribution.

Back to school night

Western Heights Middle School will be holding "Back to School" night on Tuesday, Aug. 22, of from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Children's Village

Children's Village of Washington County, Inc. will host its 12th annual "Keep our Kids Safe" Four Man Scramble Golf Classic on Friday, Sept. 8, at Black Rock Golf Course. Putting contest begins at 11 a.m.; shotgun start at noon.

Dinner will follow the tournament. Entry fee is $95 per person. Corporate sponsor packages are available. Hole and cart sponsors can also support the event.

Midas Muffler of Hagers-town is the tournament sponsor. Volvo Powertrain North America is lead sponsor, with Douglas Motors of Hancock sponsoring the hole-in-one prize car.

Register by calling Children's Village at 301-733-4443. All proceeds benefit the Children's Village life-safety education program.

Children's Village of Washington County, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing free life-safety education to elementary school children in Washington County.
