Sheriff's deputies respond to calls



The Washington County Sheriff's Department responded to the following calls since Saturday, Sgt. Roy Harsh said:

Sunday:

· At 4:20 p.m., a 2000 Acura Integra reported stolen from Virginia was found parked in the 22100 block of Holiday Drive.

· At 11:38 a.m., storage units at T.A. Baer Inc., 16125 Business Parkway, were reportedly broken into.

Saturday:

· At 9:34 p.m., water balloons were reportedly thrown on the windshield of a white 2000 GMC pickup truck in the area of Cearfoss Pike and Garden View Road.

· At 8:09 a.m., a digital camera and a PDA were reported stolen in the 13900 block of Sweet Vale Drive.

· At 12:18 p.m., a purple 10-speed bicycle was reported stolen in the 13600 block of Rock Cliff Drive.

· At 2:11 p.m., a firecracker was reportedly set off in a mailbox in the 4300 block of Western Pike.

·· At 2:26 p.m., $9,000 worth of antiques were reported stolen from a residence in the 800 block of Beaver Creek Road.




Pa. burglary probed



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police were investigating a residential burglary that occurred between July 24 and Sunday in the 1500 block of Meadow Green Lane in Guilford Township.

Police said witnesses reported the house had been entered several times during that period, but the residents reported nothing was stolen and there was no damage to the property.




Pa. man faces DUI charge



MERCERSBURG, Pa. - A Greencastle, Pa., man was charged with driving under the influence following an accident Sunday afternoon at the Longview Campground.

Police said Carl Carty, 40, address unavailable, was injured in the 12:30 p.m. accident. He was driving a 1989 Lincoln Continental that struck a tree as it pulled out of a parking space, police said.

The car then continued through the campground, striking another tree, police said.




Woman charged with indecent assault



CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Fayetteville, Pa., woman has been charged with inappropriate sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl, according to Chambersburg police.

Jennifer Maria Ortega, 22, of 20 W. Main St., is charged with aggravated indecent assault, institutional sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, interference with the custody of a committed person and indecent assault, police said.

The Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare alerted police of the alleged sexual relationship between Ortega and the girl at Mountain Valley, a residential treatment facility for juveniles where Ortega was a therapeutic support staff employee, police said.

The incidents allegedly took place between February and June and occurred at the facility, in Ortega's vehicle and at a residence in South Mountain, Pa., police said.




Man charged in credit union robbery



FREDERICK, Md. - A 40-year-old Frederick, Md., man has been charged with robbing the Spectrum Federal Credit Union in Frederick, the Frederick Police Department said.

According to police, a man walked into the credit union on West Patrick Street at about 5 p.m. Tuesday and motioned with his hand, which was covered with a cloth or towel, to suggest he had a gun. After the robbery, the suspect left the credit union on foot, and he was last seen walking quickly across the parking lot toward U.S. 40, police said.

James Anthony Jones, of the 500 block of Primus Court, was charged with armed robbery, robbery, theft of greater than $500, and first-degree and second-degree assault, police said.

Man charged with attempted murder



FREDERICK, Md. - A 21-year-old man was charged with several counts of attempted murder and assault after a fight in Frederick that sent three people to area hospitals, the Frederick Police Department said.

According to police, Sergio DeJesus Martinez-Melada, of no fixed address, was fleeing through the front door of a residence in the 400 block of Center Street as officers responded at 2:46 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a fight. He was arrested after a brief fight with police, police said.

According to a police investigation, Martinez-Melada stabbed three of the victims at the residence. He allegedly entered the residence with the intent of killing one person, with whom he had a prior relationship, police said.

Martinez-Melada was charged with attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder and several counts each of first-degree and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, as well as various burglary charges, police said.

Two victims were taken to Washington County Hospital, and the third victim was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, police said. None of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.




Man charged with armed robbery



FREDERICK, Md. - A 37-year-old Frederick man who allegedly told a bank teller he would blow her head off if she did not give him money was charged with armed robbery and four counts of assault, the Frederick Police Department said.
