August 08, 2006

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Aaron Bates blasted his first two home runs of the season - including a grand slam in the fifth - Monday to lead the Greenville Drive to a 9-6 win over the Hagerstown Suns.

Bates' first homer of the season came with the bases loaded off Suns starter Jeramy Simmons in the Drive's five-run fifth for a 5-2 lead.

Bates added a one-out solo shot in Greenville's four-run eighth to put the game out of reach.

Hagerstown had two run innings in the second, eighth and ninth innings.

Matt Anderson, fresh off the disabled list, and Drew Butera drove in runs in the second to give the Suns a 2-0 lead.

A Greenville throwing error led to Hagerstown's runs in the eighth to cut the deficit to 5-4. Armand Gaerlan and Jonel Pacheco each homered in the ninth.
