Suns go over Drive

August 07, 2006

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Rafael Arroyo changed his fortunes on the road with a two-out, two-run single to right field on Sunday to lift the Hagerstown Suns to a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over the Greenville Drive.

The Suns trailed 1-0 heading into the eighth inning and were on the verge of wasting a dominant performance by starting pitcher Deolis Guerra. Guerra allowed one run - a third-inning RBI double to Dominic Ramos - on five hits and two walks while striking out 11 in 5 2/3 innings.

Hagerstown (47-65, 19-23) tied the game in the eighth on Armand Gaerlan's home run.

The Suns took the lead in the ninth as Ryan Coultas led off with a double off reliever Blake Maxwell (6-2). Leivi Ventura advanced Coultas to third on an infield single and took second on Jesus Gamero's groundout.

Arroyo's single broke a 4-for-54 season on the road for the catcher.

Coultas, who was sent to Hagerstown from St. Lucie to replace Fernando Martinez, went 4-for-4 in the win. Martinez was promoted to the Florida State League.
