Two teens assaulted



Two teenage boys were assaulted Saturday night at the intersection of Scarlet Oak Drive and Maple Leaf Court in Halfway, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.

Two teenage boys and three teenage girls are suspected in the assault, police said. The victims said that just before 7 p.m. the five teenagers, who were in a light blue Pontiac Sundance, assaulted them.

The victims said the vehicle pulled over while they were walking along Lincoln Avenue, and the two boys got out, police said. The front-seat passenger struck one of the victims, and one of the teenagers began to fight.

Police said a neighbor stopped the fight, and the teens who had been in the car returned to the vehicle and fled.

One of the victims was taken to Washington County Hospital and treated for injuries, police said. The second was treated and released at the scene.

$800 in quarters stolen



SCOTLAND, Pa. - About $800 in quarters was stolen from a home in the 100 block of Grand Avenue in Scotland, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The money was stolen sometime Tuesday. Police said a window was broken on the back door of the home, and someone stole a water cooler filled with the coins.

Two charged with harassment



ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Two men were charged with harassment after a fight just after 7 p.m. Saturday, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Police were called to a home in the 7000 block of Village Lane in St. Thomas for a disturbance. When officers arrived, Christopher Lee Scholtka, 23, of St. Thomas, said Keith Allan Ordway, 42, of St. Thomas, struck him, police said.

Ordway said Scholtka was arguing with another family member and he struck him, police said. Both men had cuts and abrasions.




Two injured in W.Va. crash



BLOOMERY, W.Va. - Two people were flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., for injuries suffered when a 1996 Dodge pickup truck hit a tree on the east side of Bloomery Road near W.Va. 9 around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

A third person, who was a passenger, was taken to Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va., Deputy G.W. Bradshaw said.

Deputies were confirming the identities of the three Sunday night but believed they were from the Kearneysville, W.Va., area.




Two charged with burglary



SMITHSBURG - A Waynesboro, Pa., man and a Hagerstown man have been charged with first-degree burglary in connection with an apartment break-in Friday morning, according to Smithsburg police.

Michael Ernst Brown, 24, of 12075 Hess Ave., Waynesboro, and Hipolito Torres-Jimenez, 33, of 234 N. Potomac St., also were charged with fourth-degree burglary and malicious destruction of property in the 8:05 a.m. burglary at 2 Maple Ave.

Police said two men were seen forcing open the door of an apartment. Witnesses took photos of the vehicle in which the men arrived and called police. Police said approximately $1,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from the apartment.

With the information provided by the witnesses, the vehicle was found near Waynesboro, and Brown and Torres-Jimenez were taken into custody when they returned to Smithsburg.

Bond was set at $10,000 for Brown and $5,000 for Torres-Jimenez. Torres-Jimenez was in custody Sunday night, but Brown was not at the Washington County Detention Center, a deputy said.

Police said an attempted burglary at the same apartment in June is under investigation.




Va. woman hurt when watercraft collide



DARGAN - An 18-year-old Loudoun County, Va., woman lost consciousness Sunday when the personal watercraft she was riding on was hit by her sister's watercraft, a Potomac Valley Fire Co. official said.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Eric Gray, the woman was hurt when her watercraft was struck on the side at about 2:45 p.m. by a watercraft her 16-year-old sister was riding. The riders were returning to the Potomac River boat ramp at Dargan, Gray said.

The woman was helped out of the river by a fisherman, and she was taken to Washington County Hospital, Gray said. She appeared to suffer nonlife-threatening injuries, Gray said. The 16-year-old was shaken up, but not hurt, he said.
