Hagerstown City Council

The Hagerstown City Council on Tuesday approved three-year contracts with its four employee bargaining units.

The contracts, which are retroactive to July 3, include most of a structured wage increase recommended by a consultant. Certain benefits, such as health insurance, changed, too.

The city has 481 employees or approved positions, Donna Messina, the city's human resources director, said Wednesday. The numbers in parentheses below are how many employees were part of each bargaining unit as of Wednesday. The remaining employees and approved positions - 170, including managers - are not part of labor unions.

The City Council approved, 3-2, a contract with firefighters (53 employees; nine more firefighters will be hired in November)
