Fateful photos

July 30, 2006|by JULIE E. GREENE

Chance encounters and glances often result in great photos.

Such as the time Greencastle, Pa., resident Ed Dyson spotted a juvenile great horned owl while trout fishing or the moment when Erin Spahr, of New Market, Md., caught her 11-month-old son peeking out the doggie door.

These are some of the moments on today's Gallery page, but we're looking for more of the best recent photos from the Tri-State area. So many amazing things - big and small - happen in the area that we don't get to see. This is a chance for amateur photographers to share their talent.

Quality is key. If you have captured a spontaneous and beautiful moment between a parent and child, send it to us. If you've got an interesting exposure of the moon, we'll take a look at it. If it's just some crazy moment, send it in.

We will not have space for family portraits, posed scenes or news photos that are published elsewhere in the newspaper. This is something altogether different.
