Know more - W.Va. 9

July 30, 2006

The issue: Work to replace W.Va. 9, a notoriously dangerous road in the Eastern Panhandle with a new, four-lane route, continues to move slowly ahead as hurdles still remain for construction to begin in Berkeley County.

What's new: Residents apparently are not waiting for the new route's bicycle and pedestrian trail to be completed, let alone the road itself, as the first section of highway paving is about to get under way in Jefferson County.

What's next: Contractors are expected to begin work on two new contracts in August and September, and two more are about to be advertised by the West Virginia Division of Highways.
