Bruchey checks out ice rink

July 27, 2006

Hagerstown Mayor Robert Bruchey made a stop at the Hagerstown Ice and Sports Complex last Friday to check out the many improvements that have taken place since July 1.

During the two weeks the ice rink was closed, a new sheet of ice, featuring the logo of the Hagerstown Bulldogs youth team at center ice, was installed.

In addition, the dasher boards surrounding the ice have been repaired or replaced and the locker room area has been renovated and repainted in the colors of the Bulldogs - red, blue and gold.

The work at the rink was accomplished through the combined efforts of Hagerstown Ice & Sports Complex employees and contractors and volunteers from the Hagerstown Youth Hockey Association.

Jeff Barbour, president of HYHA, presented the mayor a Hagerstown Bulldogs Youth Hockey jersey bearing his name.

Arena Manager Dave Brandenburg presented the mayor with a Hagerstown Ice & Sports Complex hat.

The mayor took time to meet with and have his photo taken with the youth players at the rink for practice, and even dropped the puck for a face-off.

The Hagerstown Ice & Sports Complex is at 580 Security Road and is open daily, offering a variety of programs and public skating sessions.

The HYHA is a nonprofit organization open to all area youth interested in learning and playing ice hockey.
