Hot Soup for families on a summer day

July 27, 2006|by TIFFANY ARNOLD

Family folk trio Hot Soup plans to serve plenty of comfort food - for your ears, anyway.

The Maryland-based group is scheduled to perform at the The Maryland Theatre on Saturday, July 29.

Listeners should expect humor, spontaneity and witty banter, organizers say.

"It's not a sit and listen kind of show," said band member Sue Trainor.

For a local connection, the group's newest member, Jennifer Avila, is from Hagerstown.

The all-female trio is just coming off the release of its third album, "The Way You Like It."

While folk is the main course, the group adds occasional doses of world music in its melody making. Instrumentation often includes congas, ubang hand drums and kokiriko, a Japanese instrument that makes a rattling sound.
