It's no mystery that the residents of Smithsburg have been eagerly anticipating the opening of the new Smithsburg Library being built at Veterans Park. Some of the area's best mystery writers will be on hand Tuesday, Aug 8, from 3 to 5 p.m. to celebrate this achievement.

Please come out as "Sisters-in-Crime" authors Donna Andrews, Dana Cameron, Nora Charles, Mary Jane Deeb, Laura Durham, Mary Ellen Hughes, Valerie Malmont, Sandra Parshall and Marcia Talley help commemorate this milestone. Copies of the authors' recent works will be available for purchase or you may bring your own copies.

Sisters-in-Crime was founded by Sara Paretsky and a group of women mystery writers in 1986. Special celebrations are planned through October 2007 in celebration of the organizations 20th anniversary. The library strives to make all programs accessible. Please inform the library of special needs two weeks prior to the program. For more details, call 301-824-7722 or 301-739-3250 ext. 136.

Remember your pets

Summer is a hot time for all of us, including our pets. Remember to keep plenty of water available and a shady spot close by, especially for chained pets.

Think what you would feel like wearing a coat in the heat.

Garden is growing

Hope everyone is enjoying the weather, I love not having the humidity. The porch garden is thriving with lots to pick from.

Please send information on your upcoming events around the West End to or call 301-733-9259 .
