HAGERSTOWN - Hagerstown Police Department detectives continued their search Tuesday for the person or people who shot and killed one New York man and critically wounded another at a Hagerstown apartment Sunday night.

Jackson Agustin Rodriguez, 22, of Walton Avenue in Bronx, N.Y., was dead when officers arrived at about 11:15 p.m. Sunday at Washington Gardens Apartments in response to a report that shots were fired at the 1022 Security Road building.

Officers also found Tony Perry, 22, of East Burn Avenue in the Bronx, shot. Perry was in critical condition Tuesday at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, Hagerstown Police Department Lt. Mike King said.

King said Rodriguez and Perry did not shoot each other. He would not say how many times either of the men was shot or in what room of the apartment they were found. Police are looking for another person or people who shot the men, but are not clear about the motive for the shooting, he said.

Officers had to force down the door to 1022C Security Road Sunday after neighbors directed them to the third-floor apartment where shots reportedly were fired.

Rodriguez was found dead and Perry was wounded. Perry was taken to Washington County Hospital and transferred to Shock Trauma.

King would not disclose whether there were other people in the residence at the time of the shooting.

Neither victim held the lease to the apartment, he said.
