Joseph Eichelberger has filed for re-election to a second four-year term as Washington County Orphans Court judge.

Eichelberger, 65, of 5604 Sharpsburg Pike in Sharpsburg, said he has enjoyed working the past four years as one of three judges in the county's Orphans Court and he wants to continue.

"I've worked in public service for four decades. I enjoy helping people," he said.

Eichelberger, a Republican, was appointed in 2003 by Maryland Court of Appeals Chief Robert M. Bell to a two-year term to the Conference of Orphans Court Judges, a board of orphans court judges from across the state that advises Bell of Orphans Court matters and shares resources.

Eichelberger, who works part-time as a security officer at Washington County Courthouse, retired from the Maryland Division of Correction after 21 years.
