July 19, 2006

The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts will be closed to the public from Aug. 7 to 25 in order to make repairs and upgrades to the building, according to a museum press release.

The museum offices will remain open during this time.

The carpeting in the Groh Gallery will be replaced with cork, a resilient and comfortable material, and the carpeting in the Smith and Kerstein galleries will be removed to repair the wood flooring in a way that respects the original intentions of the architects Hyde and Shepherd, according to the release.

The remaining floors will be refinished and polished. The work will be completed in time to celebrate the museum's 75th anniversary, according to the release.

Museum hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
