On Sunday, July 16, the Little Heiskell Duplicate Bridge Club conducted the fourth annual two-session Charity Swiss Team duplicate bridge game to raise money for Food Resources Inc.
Since 1987 Food Resources Inc. has served the area as a regional nonprofit food warehouse from which other area charitable organizations can obtain food to benefit people in need. Food is collected via local food drives and is purchased with Food Resources funds.
Fourteen four-player teams from Hagerstown, Charles Town, W.Va., Chambersburg, Pa., Frederick, Md., and Harrisburg, Pa., competed for more than seven hours of duplicate bridge to take home nationally sanctioned American Contract Bridge League master points and to raise money for Food Resources. Hickory Corner catered dinner between sessions.
In Sunday's game in the A stratum, first place went to Dick and Lois Taylor and Frank and Anne Carden. Second-place finishers were Ronnie Orr, Tim Smith, Stephen Fava and David Charleston. Rick Elbo, Jean Toth, and John and Selena Swanson came in third, and Elaine Rowe, Janet LaGrassa and Howard and Lois Gilbert took fourth place. Finishing in fifth place was the team of Iris Yonetz, Helen Swanson, and Barbara and Vince Schoeck.
