Teen to compete in pageant



Ashlee Renee Brewer, 15, of Hagerstown, will compete for the title of Miss Maryland Teen USA 2007 on Friday, Nov. 3; Saturday, Nov. 4; and Sunday, Nov. 5; at the Marriott Bethesda North Hotel & Conference Center in North Bethesda, Md.

Ashlee is the daughter of James and Roseanna Brewer. She attends South Hagerstown High School and her activities/hobbies are reading, studying, volunteer work and sports. Last year she was on the distinguished honor roll for three semesters in a row and the honor roll for four. She wants to be a registered nurse and attend The University of Miami.

Ashlee is seeking sponsorship for the pageants from local businesses and individuals. Call 240-291-4422 for sponsorship information. The Miss Maryland Teen USA and Miss Maryland USA pageants are preliminaries to the Miss Teen USA, Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants. The young woman chosen as Miss Maryland Teen USA 2007 will go on to represent the state of Maryland in the 2007 Miss Teen USA pageant, which airs on NBC.

Church to hold open house



SMITHSBURG - Emmanuel Chapel in Smithsburg will hold a youth open house from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 19. The rain date is Wednesday, July 26. There will be activities for all ages including puppets, games, door prizes, snacks, volleyball and live Christian rock music.
