Amanda Christine Stover, daughter of Bill and Betty Stover, graduated May 25 from Towson University, Towson, Md., with a master's degree in speech pathology.

Stover is a 2000 graduate of Boonsboro High School. She will be working with infants and toddlers through Educational Based Services in Howard County, Md.




Two undergraduates studying social work at Frostburg State University are interning with the Washington County Department of Social Services under the supervision of Steve White.

They are Emily Albright of Damascus, Md., and Clarissa Sowers of Hagerstown.

Undergraduate social work students at FSU complete a full-time internship during the last term of their senior year. The program provides a capstone in which students integrate their academic studies with practical experience in social work.

The following local students recently graduated from Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va.:

Hannah Wilson of Clear Spring graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Joshua Carter of Hagerstown graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in religion.




Tamara Filipovic and Jill Mease of Hagerstown were named to the Dean's List at Goucher College, Baltimore, for the spring 2006 semester:




The following Washington County students have earned academic honors for the spring 2006 semester at Roanoke College, Salem, Va.:

Rebecca Leigh Gisriel of Williamsport was named to the Dean's List for compiling a grade-point average of at least 3.50. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Austin E. Gisriel.

Amber Dawn Moats of Hancock was named to the faculty's list of honorable mention for compiling a grade-point average between 3.0 and 3.49. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Moats Jr.




Two Frederick, Md., residents were named to the Dean's List at Emory College, the undergraduate, liberal arts college of Emory University in Atlanta, for the spring 2006 semester:

Amy Franciscovich is the daughter of Robert John Franciscovich and Cheryl Ann Linscott. Laura Eskander is the daughter of Drs. Elhamy Daoud Eskander and Hoda Fouad Gabriel.




Robert Kornides, son of Beverly and Gene Kornides of Boonsboro, attended the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.

Robert was nominated by the social studies department of Boonsboro High School who identified Robert as a student demonstrating leadership qualities and academic achievement.

During his 10 days in Washington, Robert had the unique opportunity to witness our nation's democracy in action and to interact with many of today's leaders from Congress, the executive branch, the national news media and the diplomatic corps.

He participated in leadership group meetings and Town Hall discussions with the assistants from the offices of U.S. Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Paul Sarbanes, D-Md.

Robert's interest in government and law has heightened with his experiences with the National Youth Leadership Council.




Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, Pa., has recently named the following local students to the Honor Roll for the 2006 spring term.

York College of Pennsylvania named Kimberly N. Sullivan of Hagerstown and Jessica Washko of Sharpsburg to its Dean's List for the 2006 spring semester.

Sullivan, a graduate of Smithsburg High School, is pursuing a degree in recreation and leisure administration with a minor in business administration. She is the daughter of Michael and Sharon Sullivan.

Washko, a graduate of Boonsboro High School, is pursuing a degree in nursing. She is the daughter of Edward and Linda Washko.




The following local area students recently graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, Ga.:

Christine Marie Toms of Hagerstown received a Master of Art degree in historic preservation.

Sara Elizabeth Porciuncula of Hagerstown received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in graphic design.




The following area students graduated from McDaniel College, Westminster, Md., on May 20 at the college's 136th Commencement ceremony:

Todd Ryan Knepperof Boonsboro graduated with a major in art.

Jason Douglas Kuhns of Frederick, Md., graduated with a major in business administration-economics.

Jessica Lynn Whitney of Hagerstown graduated with a major in sociology.
