Elevator maintenance to move County Commissioners' meetings

July 15, 2006

The Washington County Board of County Commissioners' meetings will be moved to different locations during the next month while maintenance is being conducted on the elevator at the County Administration Building, according to a county press release.

The meetings set for July 18, and Aug. 1 and 8 will be affected.

The July 18 open meeting at 8:30 a.m. will be in the public meeting room of the Department of Water Quality Building at 16232 Elliott Parkway.

Elliott Parkway serves the I-70/81 Industrial Park off Md. 63 (Greencastle Pike) between Williamsport and Huyetts Crossroads. A map of the location and picture of the Water Quality Building may be seen on the county's Web site at

The locations for the Aug. 1 and 8 meetings will be announced at a later date.

The commissioners will not meet July 25 or Aug. 15, according to the release.

Meetings are not scheduled to resume in the Commissioners' Meeting Room, on the second floor of the Administration Building at 100 W. Washington St., before mid-August, according to the release.

In making repairs, the contractor found additional work was needed, which will delay completion of the project, according to the release.

The elevator is closed due to a regular maintenance project, as required by state law, according to the release.

During the remainder of the maintenance period, those who have mobility problems and cannot climb stairs, and who need to receive services from departments on the second and third floors of the building, are being asked to make contact with the department providing the service or the Office on Disability Issues to schedule an appointment in an accessible location.

Arrangements may be made by contacting the Office on Disability Issues at 240-313-2077 (V/TDD) or in person at the Information Desk in the Mail Room on the first floor of the Administration Building.
