Michael R. Gordon, 54

MOORESVILLE, N.C. - Michael "Mike" Richard Gordon, 54, of Rollingwood Lane in Mooresville, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville, N.C.

Born Jan. 4, 1952, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of Richard E. and Julia Hegland Gordon.

Prior to his death, he was a district manager for RSC Rental Equipment.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran.

Mr. Gordon was a life member of VFW Post 6319 of Greencastle, Pa.

He was an avid boater, fisherman and golfer.

Mr. Gordon was the greatest husband and father, who was known as "Papa" to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Vicki Scown Gordon; children, Michael R. Gordon II of Tucson, Ariz., Jennifer Parker and husband, Richard, of Troutman, N.C., and Christopher J. Borst and wife, Becky, of Mooresville; grandchildren, Michael R. Gordon III, Yesenia M. Gordon, Taylor A. Ayers, Jessica Parker, Madison Parker, Sydney Borst, Hayley Borst and MaKayla Borst; sister, Susan M. Downin of Waynesboro; brother, Timothy S. Gordon and wife, Barbara, of Hagerstown, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He will be truly missed by his family pets, Angel and Samantha.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard E. and Julia Hegland Gordon; and a niece, Amanda Downey.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 15, 2006, at 3 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville, with the Rev. Mark McClamrock officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Iredell County Veterans Council.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m., prior to services at the funeral home.

Janet E. Collette, 73

WARRENTON, Va. - Janet Evelyn Collette, 73, of Warrenton, died July 13, 2006, at Fauquier Hospital.

She was born Oct. 20, 1932, in Hedgesville, W.Va., a daughter of Lucille Williamson of Williamsport, Md., and the late Lawrence Russell Williamson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Collette, D.D.S.

Besides her mother, she is survived by two sons, Richard L. Collette Jr. of Middleburg, Va., and Steve Collette of Warrenton; one daughter, Abby Lawson of Warrenton; two sisters, Frances Smallwood of Williamsport, and Carol Ettinger of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and two grandchildren, Katie Collette and Trevor Lawson.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Moser Funeral Home, Warrenton.

A graveside service will be Monday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at Little Georgetown Cemetery, Broad Run, Va., by Dr. Bill Thigpen.

Floyd D. Crider, 82

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Floyd D. "Flody" Crider, 82, of 118 E. Madison St., died Thursday, July 13, 2006, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Aug. 5, 1923, in Marion, Pa., he was the son of the late Levi and Blanche Small Crider.

He worked at the former Fox Buick in Greencastle from 1955 to 1973. He was a new and used car salesman for 45 years in the Greencastle area.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was a member of Greencastle Presbyterian Church.

He was a former Greencastle Borough Councilman, and a member of the Greencastle Sportsmen Association, Franklin County Fire Police and Chiefs Association, Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319 of Greencastle and Mount Pisgah Lodge No. 443 F&AM of Greencastle, among other organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Cora E. Trumpower Crider, whom he married April 19, 1946; one son, David R. Poper of Greencastle; two sisters, Helen Crider of Greencastle, and Shirley Crider of Chambersburg; and one brother, John Crider of Chambersburg.

A memorial service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Greencastle Presbyterian Church. The Revs. Anna Pinckney Straight and Myrtle McCall will officiate.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, with military honors by the Honor Guard of Chambersburg VFW Post 1599.

There will be no public viewing; however, the family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.

The family requests the omission of flowers.
