Man is charged after allegedly accosting mother

A Hagerstown man who allegedly accosted his 79-year-old mother and chased her as she tried to get away from him was charged with robbery and other crimes relating to the July 8 incident.

Randy Wayne Harbaugh, 41, of Hagerstown, was charged with robbery, trespassing, false imprisonment and second-degree assault, according to charging documents.

Harbaugh allegedly grabbed his mother's arms and refused to let her call the police when he came to her Pope Avenue home about 8 a.m. demanding money, according to charging documents. When his mother tried to lock herself in the bathroom, Harbaugh used a toothpick to force the door open, according to charging documents.

Harbaugh was seen chasing his mother outside, according to charging documents.

Harbaugh had been told by both his mother and father he is not allowed in their home, according to charging documents.

No one was injured in the incident, and nothing was taken, according to charging documents.

Harbaugh was being held Friday night on $125,000 bail at the Washington County Detention Center, a detention center spokeswoman said.
