Get kickin' and sign up for youth soccer

You can sign up for Williamsport Youth Soccer this coming Monday, July 17, at McDonald's in Williamsport. Mail-in registration forms are available online at wil or at Williamsport McDonald's. Age groups include from under 6 years to under 14 years for boys and girls. The registration deadline is July 17. Soccer practice starts in mid-August and scheduled games start in September. Get kickin' and register early.

Trading Places VBS!

"Trading Places - Where Jesus makes a whole world of difference!" is the theme for daily Vacation Bible School at Calvary Temple, 147 S. Conococheague St. Adventure classes for ages 4 through 18 years old will be held on July 2428 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Hush, somebody's calling my name


That's right, eight members of Williamsport United Methodist Church answered the call to partner with University United Methodist Church of Lake Charles, La., to teach Vacation Bible School and to make repairs to the Samaritan House, a counseling center damaged by Hurricane Rita.

Lake Charles was devastated during Hurricane Rita last September. The group will be leaving on July 22 and returning on July 30 ready to share their experience with us. Please keep this group in your prayers.

SK8 Church to meet Sunday

SK8 Church starts this Sunday, July 16, at 6 p.m. at the New Hope Alliance Church on 302 S. Artizan St. (across from Murray's gas station). All skaters and bikers ages 11-18 and interested in a regular skate time are to meet in the parking lot of the church. Bring your skateboards and helmets. Bikes welcome, too! Lions Club has new officers

At the recent meeting of Williamsport Lions Club, Past District Gov. Roger Moore, a member of Sharpsburg Lions Club, installed the newly elected officers for the Lions year beginning July 1. Officers include:

President - Georgia Barton; First Vice President - Ronald F. Rowe; Second Vice President - Walter E. Schoenian; Third Vice President - Larry G. Miller; Secretary - Richard J. Nye; Treasurer - Christopher R. Bennett; Tail Twister - Terry R. Doub; Lion Tamer - Cort F. Meinelschmidt.

Directors (two years) - John H. Rand, Stanley E. Stouffer; Directors (one year) - William P. Collins, J. Scott Shipe; Membership - William H. Elliott.

Under President Georgia's leadership, the club is now planning many activities, community service projects and fundraisers for the upcoming year. Plan now to attend their annual ox roast on Aug. 25. Also look for their funnel cake stand at the all new Williamsport Days on Aug. 26-27 in Byron Park. A steak feed is planned for Sept. 14.

One member, Mary L. Stains-Ecker, will be the District Region II, Zone I chairman for this Lions year. This zone includes five Lions and Lioness clubs.

Hunting news

Jerimiah Johnson has hunting updates:

The first hunting season with guns in Maryland is Dove season on Sept. 1, followed by Squirrel season on Sept. 2. So that is 47 and 48 days from today for stuffed dove and fried squirrel! Please past those mashed taters!

He will keep us updated on all the hunting seasons and share some interesting hunting tips.

In closing, Jerimiah Johnson, great white hunter, says, "Veg-e-tar-i-an" is old Native American word for "Bad Hunter"!

Class of '61 reunion

WHS Class of 1961 will celebrate their 45-year class reunion on Sept. 23 at the Community Building. More information to follow.

Class of '91 reunion

The place for the 15-year reunion has changed. The reunion will be a family picnic and will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, at Martin "Marty" Snook Memorial Park in Halfway at Pavilion No. 4.

Invitations will be sent in early August. To ensure that class members receive their invitations, class members, or anyone who knows a class member, are asked to phone 301-714-4732 or e-mail with current address information.

62nd WHS Classof 1944 Reunion

Class member Patty Koons reported that the WHS Class of 1944 celebrated their 62nd graduation reunion. Sixtheen classmates attended and shared fond memories of their years at WHS.

50th anniversary

Congratulations to Gary and June (Kesselring) Fraker, celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married in Williamsport on June 30, 1956.

Moose Lodge 2462 plans activities

Moose Lodge 2462 is a supporter of the Moose Community Service programs and dedicated to bettering the lives of children and elderly in need through Mooseheart and Moosehaven.
