Monster trucks take over Hagerstown Speedway

The monster trucks are back and this time they're accompanied by a car-eating, fire-breathing mechanical dragon, says Angie Richison, marketing manager with promoter Live Nation.

Dracko, which is 35 feet tall, 45 feet long and weighs 42,000 pounds, will demonstrate its attack skills midway through the U.S. Hot Rod Monster Jam at Hagers-town Speedway this Friday through Sunday.

Also on hand will be 2006 World Finals race champion Grave Digger, driven by Dennis Anderson, and 2006 World Finals freestyle champion Maximum Destruction, driven by Tom Meents.

Other monster trucks expected to compete are Hot Wheels, Destroyer, Iron Warrior and Black Stallion, which will be driven by Michael Vaters of Washington County.

This will be Dracko's first visit to the speedway.

Back this year will be the popular Blue Thunder monster truck that fans can ride for $5 each, Richison says. The truck seats about 10 people in the open-air bed for a ride. There are seat belts.

The show also features Quad Wars (four-wheelers) and Street Warriors. Street Warriors are street-legal pickup trucks qualified to race. The races usually include several local drivers, Richison says.
