Students honored for citizenship, service

The Funkstown Lions Club held its annual student recognition night during its June 14 dinner meeting at the Plaza Hotel.

Emma K. Doub fifth-graders Brianna Adams and Daniel Testa were presented $100 savings bonds as winners of the Principal's Citizenship Award Program.

The club also donated $400 to the school to support classroom activities.

Early "Petey" Bates Community Service Scholarships of $500 were presented to graduating South Hagerstown High School seniors Jennifer Ferrenz and Heather Carbaugh. Both were selected based on their applications emphasizing community service.

Ferrenz will attend Shepherd University and Carbaugh will attend Shenandoah University; both are pursuing careers in music education.

Award recipients, their families, and Emma K. Doub Principal Kristi Bachtell and her husband were dinner guests of the Lions Club.

Funkstown Lions Club member Terry Gossard is the education night program chairman.
