County Hall to honor Churchey, Kayfauver

Washington County scholar-athletes Brittany Churchey and Josh Keyfauver will receive special Presidents Awards at Saturday's Washington County Sports Hall of Fame banquet.

The annual event will be held at the Hagerstown Elks Club and seven new inductees will be presented.

The class of 2006 includes: Jack Melzer, Kelli Myers, Dirk Schultz, Steve Shifflett, Earl Springer, Earl Stoner and Selena Wilkes.

Churchey, a North Hagerstown graduate, plans on continuing her academics at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis.

She was a versatile athlete at North High - a member of the cross country team for four years as well as basketball, track, indoor track and softball.

In the classroom, Churchey maintained a 4.13 GPA and was a member of the honor club all four years. She was also a member of the National Honor Society for two years.


Keyfauver, a Clear Spring graduate, was a standout in cross country and track.

In outdoor track, he was the Maryland Class 1A state champion in the 800 meters in 2006, setting a Class 1A meet record.

In indoor track, he was state runner-up in the 800 in 2005 and 2006; was All-Monocacy Valley Athletic League and All-Washington County in 2004, '05 and '06; was a county champion in the 800 in 2004 and '05; was the MVAL champion in the 800 in 2005 and '06; was a member of the county championship team, MVAL champion and state qualifying 3,200 relay team in 2005 and '06; and was selected the most valuable Clear Spring athlete in 2004, '05 and '06.

In cross country, he was team captain in 2004 and '05; All-MVAL in 2004; All-County in 2005; and was the leading runner on the state championship team in 2005.
