SMITHSBURG - In June, Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services Inc. celebrated 25 years of serving Smithsburg and the surrounding communities.

Past and present members were treated to a pig roast. Among those attending were state Sen. Donald F. Munson, R-Washington; Del. Robert A. McKee, R-Washington; and Julianna Albowicz, who represented U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski's office.

Also present were Smithsburg Mayor Mildred "Mickey" Myers and Col. Douglas Mullendore of the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Guests said a few words in recognition of the department's accomplishment, and presented members with certificates and resolutions in celebration of the 25th anniversary.

President Wayne Williams and Capt. James Ulrich spoke about the department's history and their personal experiences. Both thanked the present and past members for all of their volunteer time and hard work, and especially thanked the citizens of the community for their continued support.
