Fire company to raffle motorcycle

July 12, 2006

SMITHSBURG - Mother Nature threw the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Co. some nasty weather during this year's carnival, but President Phil Rohrer said the last three days finished strong.

"We ended up making a little money, not as much as last year, but we didn't lose," Rohrer said.

Without missing a beat, the company has launched a Harley-Davidson raffle, with tickets selling for $20 each.

The drawing will be the same day as the Poker Run, which is scheduled for Aug. 26.

The start time for the motorcycle event is 10 a.m. at the carnival grounds at the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Co. off Main Street, Rohrer said.

The ride ends in the same place, then the drawing will be held. Poker Run entry fees are sold separately.

First place is a 2006 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softtail, Rohrer said.

Second prize is a Harley gun safe, and third prize is a Ruger Red Label 12-gauge over/under shotgun.
