EMS responds to 99 calls in June

SMITHSBURG - During June, Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to 99 calls for service, bringing the 2006 total to 553 responses as of June 30.

Of the 99 calls, 12 were to Frederick County and four were to Franklin County.

Eleven calls were within Smithsburg town limits, while another 10 calls were in the Hagerstown area, 13 in Leitersburg, 11 in the Mount Aetna area and seven in the Boonsboro area.

A total of 72 patients required transports to area hospitals during the month.

The department also responded to eight water rescue calls as a result of the recent flooding and one near-drowning earlier in the month, according to Jim Ulrich, captain of operations.
