Sara Catherine Farmer, 8-year-old daughter of Greg and Amy Farmer of Hagerstown, has been chosen as a State Finalist in the National American Miss Maryland Pageant, to be held Aug. 3-5 at the Hyatt Regency in Reston, Va.

She will compete in the 7-9 age group.

Sara's activities include dance class, swimming and the Missionettes Bible Club at her church. She also enjoys playing the piano. She is sponsored by her parents.

The age-group winners at the state pageant each will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses and air transportation to compete in the national pageant at Disneyland in California.

The pageant program is based on inner beauty, as well as poise and presentation. Emphasis is placed on the importance of gaining self-confidence, learning new skills, learning good attitudes about competition, and setting and achieving personal goals.
