Sam Turnbull, Circulation, is celebrating 35 years with The Herald-Mail Co. in July. Hired as a typesetter in the composing room in 1971, Turnbull's career at the company has included five years in the Data Processing Department, several years as a nightside supervisor in Composing, and the past nine years in Circulation, where he serves as an award-winning kiosk sales manager.

Matt Umstead has been hired as the Martinsburg, W.Va., bureau reporter.

Umstead, who holds a master's degree in journalism from West Virginia University, has worked for the Martinsburg Journal, Washington (Pa.) Observer-Reporter, and as an adjunct professor at Hagerstown Community College.

Erin Julius has been hired as a young-reader advocate reporter.

A journalism graduate of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., Julius has worked as an intern at the Staunton, Va., News Leader, covering both news and sports. She will replace Tiffany Arnold, who is moving to the Lifestyle Department.


Also moving into new positions are Karen Hanna, who has assumed duties as a police and court reporter, and Erin Cunningham, who has taken over the education beat.

In part-time newsroom moves, Joan Erdesky has been hired as an editor for an upcoming section and Nick Mohar-Schurz has been rehired as a summer intern.

In the Photography Department, Erick Gibson and Samantha Householder have been hired as part-time, temporary staff members.

David Palmer and Desiree Walker have been hired as sales associates in the Advertising Department. Zach Peters and Justin Harris have joined the staff as part-time sales interns and Courtney Redding-Davis as a part-time graphic artist.

In the Packaging & Distribution Department, Trent Embly and Hilda Rockwell have been hired as part-time inserters.

Hagerstown Trust

William K. Walker has joined Hagerstown Trust as senior vice president and manager of corporate development and relationships for the Franklin County market.

He is responsible for the management and development of commercial customer relationships in Franklin County, Pa., where Hagerstown Trust plans to open an office in the fall.

Walker, of Chambersburg, Pa., has 40 years of banking experience, concentrated in commercial lending and loan administration. He has a degree in accounting and business administration from Hagerstown Business College.

Cao Family Chiropractic

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Dr. May T. Cao of Cao Family Chiropractic in May attended four days of continuing education courses given by Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic in Spartanburg, S.C.

Cao is certified by the National Board of Chiropractic.

Furniture Market

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Greg Starliper, Furniture Market's senior delivery person, received a Certificate of Recognition from both stores for his ideas on how to streamline delivery times by creating a "window" for the time of arrival to customers.

His brother, Brian Starliper, works with him to make the new delivery system efficient.

Both men have been with Furniture Market for almost three years. Their prior experience was in the furniture moving business.

Both men are residents of the Waynesboro area.


ABERDEEN, Md. - Timothy R. Troxell, CEcD, executive director of the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission, was elected vice president of the Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) for the 2006-2007 program year.

For the past year, Troxell served on the MEDA board of directors as chairman of the Professional Development Committee.

He has been executive director of the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission since 2002. He joined the EDC as assistant director in 1998.

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage

Cynthia Moler, of the Hagerstown office of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, was the top producing sales associate in Washington County for May.

Moler also was the top listing sales associate by volume and by units and the top sales associate by settled volume and by settled units.

Market America

Timothy Klick, of Hagerstown, has advanced to area coordinator as an independent distributor for Market America, a product brokerage and Internet marketing company.

Klick became eligible for coordinator level after developing two sales and distribution organizations and selling an established amount of product. He previously qualified as a distributor.

Kevin T. Shoemaker

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Kevin T. Shoemaker, CFP, of Chambersburg, has become a Merrill Lynch Financial Adviser, according to the Chambersburg Merrill Lynch office.

Shoemaker, a native of Chambersburg, graduated from The College for Financial Planning and Central Pennsylvania College.

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Randy Barnhart has been promoted to mill superintendent for Just Wood Industries Inc. in Mercersburg

He has worked for the company for 12 years as a skilled craftsman. He will be responsible for managing all production staff, production flow and project scheduling.
