Town Council OKs tax increase



BOONSBORO - Three days into the start of a new fiscal year, a majority of Boonsboro Town Council members agreed to a budget and tax increase.

According to interim Town Manager Debra Smith, all of the council members but Natalie J. Mose agreed at their meeting Monday to approve a new budget of $1,307,269.

The previous budget totaled $1,025,426, Smith said.

The new budget, which retroactively is effective from the beginning of this month, includes an increase of 3 cents per $100 of assessed property value. That money will go toward paying down a loan taken out as part of the town's expansion of Shafer Memorial Park, Smith said Monday.




Proposal would increase tapping fees



BOONSBORO - Developers would have to pay more than 1 1/2 times as much to hook up to Boonsboro's sewer and water services, if the town council approves proposal tapping fee increases.

According to interim Town Manager Debra Smith, the Boonsboro Town Council is considering raising the water tapping fees to $6,500 and the sewer tapping fees to $11,000.

"That's for anybody that wants to develop or construct, that's to pay their way into the system," Smith said.

The increases would help support the infrastructure to deliver the services, Smith said.

At its meeting Monday, the council agreed to set a public hearing on the issue for Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m., Smith said Wednesday.




Wastewater plant project goes to bid



BOONSBORO - The town of Boonsboro is searching for a company to build its new wastewater treatment plant.

According to interim Town Manager Debra Smith, the town council agreed at its meeting Monday to put out to bid its plans for a new facility.

The project is projected to be finished next year and cost more than $7.3 million, Smith said Wednesday.
