Hagerstown High class of '51 has reunion

July 07, 2006

The Hagerstown High School class of 1951 celebrated the 55th anniversary of its graduation June 17 at the Four Points Sheraton.

About 150 graduates and guests attended the dinner-dance.

Master of ceremonies Bob Wantz welcomed the attendees and asked for a moment of silence for those classmates who had passed away. The class president, Dr. John Ramer, gave the invocation, followed by silence for the graduates of the class who because of illness or other reasons could not attend the reunion.

Following dinner, Wantz introduced the honored guests - Dr. and Mrs. Atlee Kepler, and Dr. Harold Bookbinder, a former teacher at West Washington Street School.

Dr. Fortune Oden'hal read a note from classmate Gene Lovel, who was unable to attend. Lovel donated three novels that he authored as door prizes. Winners were Clifford Manspeaker, Madlyn Peters McAbee and Betty Neibert Crowe. Sylvia Shore Maisack won a landscape painted by Wantz. A special plaque was presented to Charles Lumm in appreciation of his continuous service as treasurer for the class reunions.
