Arts and Crafts Fair canceled

July 07, 2006|by DON AINES

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Damage from last week's flooding has caused the cancellation of the Arts and Crafts Fair scheduled for this Saturday at Caledonia State Park.

The event will not be rescheduled, said Ed Bolt, president of the Friends of Caledonia, which hosts the annual fair along with the state park and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

"I've been down there and some of the picnic tables were just jammed up against trees," Bolt said. "It's a mess down there."

Bolt said some of the parking lots in the park were extensively damaged by the flooding. The heavy rains also damaged the park's pool, which is supposed to reopen July 15, he said.

This would have been the 25th year for the fair, which typically attracts 10,000 or more visitors to the park, Bolt said.

Friends of Caledonia is a volunteer organization whose members raise money for amenities at the state park, such as playground equipment, and do tasks at the park, Bolt said.
