July 05, 2006

EASTLAKE, Ohio - Josh Noviskey hit a three-run homer in the first inning Tuesday afternoon, and Jeff Stevens earned his second straight win on the mound as the Lake County Captains defeated the Hagerstown Suns, 9-4.

The Captains (7-6) and Suns (5-7) have split the first two games of the series. The rubber match of the series is today.

After the Suns took a 2-0 lead on a pair of first-inning solo homers by Armand Gaerlan and Nick Evans, the Captains came back with four in the bottom half to take the lead for good.

The Suns pulled to within 9-4 on a homer by Jesus Gamero in the seventh and a sacrifice fly by Matt Anderson in the eighth. In the ninth, the Suns loaded the bases with two outs against Dustin Roddy. Nick Evans, who hit a ninth-inning grand slam in Hagerstown to help beat the Captains on April 25, grounded out sharply to third to end the game.
