Boonsboro budget vote expected

July 05, 2006|by KAREN HANNA

BOONSBORO - A tax increase that was tabled as staff members looked into making cuts was expected to go before the Boonsboro Town Council again at its meeting Monday.

Interim Town Manager Debra Smith said the town needs the 3 cent property tax increase included in the new budget to pay down a loan taken out as part of the Shafer Memorial Park expansion.

The Council agreed at its June 5 meeting to put off voting on the new budget, after several residents spoke out against an increase of 3 cents for each $100 of assessed property value. The total budget would be $1,307,269, Smith said.

The new fiscal year began July 1.
