Betty L. Lantz, 78

THURMONT, Md. - Betty Lucille "Boots" Sweeney Lantz, 78, of Thurmont, died Saturday, July 1, 2006, at her home.

Born Dec. 7, 1927, in Frederick County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harold Ernest and Mildred Davis Sweeney.

She was a graduate of Thurmont High School.

She retired from the Thurmont Shoe Factory after 30 years.

She was a member of Edwin Creeger American Legion Post 168 Auxiliary of Thurmont, and South Mountain Rod and Gun Club.

She is survived by her husband, Herman L. "Pete" Lantz, whom she married Dec. 24, 1950; one daughter, Lisa Weant of Sabillasville, Md.; one sister, Arlean Fogle of Thurmont; one brother, Harold M. Sweeney of Thurmont; one granddaughter; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Allen Sweeney; and one infant sister, Bardene Sweeney.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Robert E. Dailey and Son Funeral Home, Thurmont. Pastor Sally Joyner-Giffin will officiate. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Glenn W. Smith, 60


APRIL 25, 1946-JUNE 30, 2006

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Glenn W. Smith, 60, of Martinsburg, died Friday, June 30, 2006, at City Hospital.

Born April 25, 1946, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Herman and Bertha Clark Smith.

He was the owner and operator of Glenn's Auto and Truck Repair.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Walls Smith; four daughters, Glenda Payton of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Melinda Smith, Theresa Smith and Dawn Smith, all of Martinsburg; two sisters, Betty Morris of Inwood, W.Va., and Neda Schakelford of Martinsburg; four brothers, Wayne Smith of Hedgesville, Lee Smith of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Kenneth Smith of Bassett, Va., and Woodrow Smith of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Dolly Cole; and two brothers, Dale Smith and Bobby Smith.

Services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. Pastor Christopher Walls will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.




Danny L. Legg, 59

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Danny L. Legg, 59, of Charles Town, died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born Sept. 17, 1946, in Mount Hope, W.Va., he was the son of the late Levi W. Legg and Haley Stover Legg.

He had been employed for 20 years by Dixie-Narco Co. Inc. in Ranson. He also was a carrier for The Journal in Martinsburg, W.Va., and The Morning Herald in Hagerstown.

He was a Protestant.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Cindy Hough Legg; two daughters, Danielle Legg and Lauren Legg, both at home; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Richard Kroll will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Joshua L. Kidwell, 21


APRIL 24, 1985-JUNE 24, 2006

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - U.S. Army Specialist Joshua L. "Doc" Kidwell, 21, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Thomason Trauma Center in El Paso, Texas.

Born April 24, 1985, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of Jerry A. Kidwell of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Mary Anne Sullivan-Scott and stepson of Charles Scott of Martinsburg.

He was a 2003 graduate of Hedgesville High School.

He was a member of the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso. He received awards and commendations.

He was a member of Inwood (W.Va.) Assembly of God Church. He had traveled to El Salvador as a volunteer on a mission trip.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Sarah A. Kidwell of Martinsburg; maternal grandmother, Ruby V. Sullivan of Martinsburg; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at South Berkeley Funeral Chapel, Inwood. The Rev. James L. Schuelke will officiate.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Barbara Louise Rowe, 82, of 11 W. Baltimore St. in Hagerstown, died Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 24, 1923, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Hazel E. Newcomer Bloom.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Summers; and her second husband, Woodrow W. Rowe.
