CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Cumberland Valley School of Music has announced the return of Marlin Barnes to its faculty, where he will teach all percussion instruments, including xylophone, marimba, drums and symphonic percussion.

Barnes holds a bachelor of science degree in music education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and has 30 years of experience as a private teacher and instrumental music teacher in public schools. He currently directs the string program in the Tuscarora School District.

He is returning to private teaching at the school after a five year hiatus.

A performing percussionist, his experience includes Maryland Lyric Opera, Cumberland Valley Chamber Players, Maryland Symphony Orchestra, the Altoona Symphony, Shippensburg Festival Orchestra, Mercersburg Area Community Chorus Orchestra, Hagerstown Municipal Band, Musica Ritma (percussion ensemble) and Ritma-Cordia (a cello-marimba duo).




Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries



ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Judson Winegardner has been named vice president of sales and marketing for Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries.

He will support the sales and marketing staffs by implementing sales and marketing processes to increase census in all levels of care for Diakon. He also is responsible for advancing Diakon's services and mission.

Winegardner, of Allentown, previously served as a consultant in the senior living industry.

FREDERICK, Md. - Jamaal West has joined the Frederick office of Mackintosh Inc. Realtors.

West, of Hagerstown, is a graduate of Frederick Community College with an associate degree in general studies. He has a background in management and customer service.

Penn State Mont Alto



MONT ALTO, Pa. - Awards were presented to the following people at Penn State Mont Alto's annual all-campus luncheon May 12.

The Penn Stater Faculty Award was presented to Thomas Reinsfelder, who works as the reference librarian. Reinsfelder, of Shippensburg, Pa., was responsible this year for the first Academic Festival, which showcased academic and research achievements of more than 60 Mont Alto students.

The Penn Stater Staff Award was presented to Judy Mellott, who has worked at Penn State Mont Alto for more than 21 years in Housing and Food Services, Finance and Continuing Education. Mellott, of Greencastle, Pa., is a program specialist for Continuing Education.

The Penn Stater Technical Services Award was presented to Jody Fike, who has been a member of the Housing and Food Services staff for 16 years.Fike, of Fayetteville, Pa., also received an award from the Residence Hall Council for outstanding service to students.

The Outstanding Staff Employee Award was presented to Cathy Staggs, who has served the campus for years in Housing and Food Services and most recently as part of the Technical Services staff.

Staggs, of Greencastle, was nominated for the award by students in recognition of her outstanding service.
