Area Fourth of July events scheduled

The following Fourth of July events will happen through Tuesday in the Tri-State area.

Today

The Maryland Symphony Orchestra will perform a Salute to Independence at 7:30 p.m. at Antietam National Battlefield. Fireworks begin immediately after the concert.

Mountaintop Heritage Days will have fireworks at dusk at the former Fort Ritchie's parade grounds in Cascade. Call Gary Muller at 717-794-2128.

Hagerstown Speedway, west of Hagerstown, will have fireworks Saturday after dark during the 41st annual Johnny Roberts Memorial races. Race starts at 7 p.m. Rain date is Sunday. Call 301-582-0640 or go to www.hagerstownspeedway.com.

Fireworks will be set off at Sam Michaels Park in Jefferson County, W.Va., after dark. Saturday. Gates open at 3 p.m., and live music begins at 4 p.m. The park is off Job Corps Road between Charles Town, W.Va., and Harpers Ferry, W.Va. Call 304-728-3207.

Sunday

Boonsboro's Independence Day celebration in Shafer Memorial Park off Main Street begins at 5 p.m. The Rohrersville Band and a DJ will provide music. Food will be sold. Fireworks start about 9:15 p.m. Rain date is Monday.

Independence Jam 2006 at Plumb Grove will have fireworks Sunday at 9:30 p.m. The day's activities begin at 4 p.m. Plumb Grove is on Broadfording Road near the Clear Spring school complex. Call 301-842-2252.

The Hagerstown Suns will have fireworks Sunday after the game at Municipal Stadium. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Statue of Liberty bobblehead. Game time is 6:35 p.m.

Tuesday

The City of Hagerstown will have fireworks - 15,996 shells in 30 minutes - at Fairgrounds Park at 9:30 p.m. The opening ceremony for the festivities is at 6 p.m. Trolley service from the former Ames parking lot off Dual Highway to the fairgrounds will be available from 6 p.m. until the end of the event. Williamsport's Fourth of July celebration includes fireworks at Byron Memorial Park about 9:15 p.m. Everyone is asked to bring a canned food item. Rain date for the fireworks is Wednesday. Call 301-331-0383.

The Waynesboro (Pa.) Summer Jubilee will have fireworks at 9:30 p.m. on Main Street across from Waynesboro Hospital.

Fourth of July festivities at Memorial Park in Chambersburg, Pa., include fireworks at sundown. The day's activities begin at 1 p.m. Rain date is Saturday, July 8. Call 717-261-3275.

The holiday will be celebrated at War Memorial Park, on Tennessee Avenue in Martinsburg, W.Va., with fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Activities begin at 1 p.m. Call 304-264-4842.

Celebrate Frederick presents Frederick's 4th, an Independence Day Celebration at Baker Park in Frederick, Md. Fireworks at dusk in the carillon area of the park.
