Mail Call

June 29, 2006

"I had to get rid of a groundhog under a shed last year, and I threw mothballs under the shed and that seemed to get rid of him. It didn't kill him - it just moved him on."

- Waynesboro, Pa.

"Yes ... we do have the right to protest as was stated in your You Said It on Tuesday. And I have thought of this many times during this current administration. If anyone wants to get a bus group together to head to Washington, post it in the paper ... I'm sure you will have many followers. We are not all complacent ... many just need a leader to get this protest started."

- Falling Waters, W.Va.

"To the person whose neighbor baits and shoots animals. Call the police, SPCA, and the Maryland State Department of Wildlife (for illegal hunting, which he is doing). Someone in one of those three agencies should be able to solve the problem."

- Greencastle, Pa.

"I applaud the United States Postal Service for planning a 'forever stamp.' This is the stamp that when purchased at the current first class one- ounce rate will forever send a one ounce letter, regardless of any price increases. Would it not be so very appropriate that this stamp be available now at 39 cents with a picture of the legendary Jack Benny?"

- Knoxville

"Please don't send Jane Fonda to Iraq. Ms. Fonda has a history of meeting with the enemy during time of war. Our soldiers have enough on their hands without having to deal with Ms. Fonda. As for the Dixie Chicks, send them to France."

All right, this is the second time I've found my potted pecan seedlings snapped off at the stem and scattered all over the porch. I've had enough of this kind of thing happening, and I find it extremely rude. If it's because of squirrels, I want to know how to stop them from getting into my pots and chewing up my baby trees. If it's because of kids messing with my plants, then I have only two words for them: STOP IT!"

- Boonsboro

"I'm all for the kids being disciplined when they do something wrong. That's the whole problem - the government gets involved. They ought to stay out of how people raise their kids. That's why there's so many criminals."

- Hagerstown

"To the person who has a problem with a groundhog digging a hole under his shed: Go get some bubble gum, chop it up in little pieces, sprinkle it in the hole, wait a couple days until the bubble gum disappears, and the groundhog will leave. I don't know why he leaves. I think he goes to get a colonoscopy. He will be gone; cover the hole back up."

- Maugansville

"Special thanks goes out to the gentleman who paid for our nursing care center residents' meals at Cracker Barrel, Thursday, June 22. God bless you. This meant so much to the residents."

- Hagerstown

"If you're an alumni of the White Oak Forest Elementary School and received an invitation, it is not too late to return your invitation with the money to attend. We will be accepting reservations until the day of the reunion. If there is any questions, please call Calista."

"Why, if you buck the administration, or if you're against the war in Iraq, you want to cut and run, you're a coward, unpatriotic - but yet, the very next day the general for the forces in Iraq says the exact same thing. Does he want to cut and run? Is he a coward? Is he unpatriotic? These Republicans kill me."

- Hagerstown

"I have to call in and respond to the second request by apparently the same person, suggesting that Boonsboro needs a cheesy dollar store and a fast-food restaurant in our beautiful new little shopping center. These people must be from out of the area. Why on earth would you want that in this town? You've got fast food and dollar stores all over the area, and I just can't believe someone would want that kind of element right in beautiful downtown Boonsboro. It just makes me so angry that anyone would suggesting putting that in. There's far more useful things we could do with that space."

"To the person who took my money out of the silver Tracker in Van Lear, I just wanted to tell you that you were seen doing it and please return it."

- Williamsport

"Concerning Mr. Wagner being buried in the cemetery, when he was in the service he was not considered a criminal. But oh, I suppose we're all perfect. Those without sin cast the first stone."

"It never ceases to amaze me - these young (people) and their fancy cars. Look on page 1 of the June 26 Daily Mail."

- Williamsport

"I'm calling to the person or persons responsible for removing the precious things I put on my husband's grave at Rest Haven. How dare you dig up a beautiful tree and take it, and also the other things you have stolen from it? I just hope you ask for forgiveness from God, because He knows who you are. Please let my loved one rest in peace. Keep your hands off of things that don't belong to you."

- Hagerstown
