An outstanding performance by Dylan Stouffer wasn't quite enough for West End on Monday evening, as Federal prevailed 9-5 in the first round of the Maryland District 1 9-10 All-Star Tournament at West End Little League.

Federal will play at Valley this evening, while West End travels to Halfway for a losers' bracket game.

Stouffer hit a pair of two-run homers, including a mammoth shot to center in the bottom of the first inning to give West End a 2-0 lead.

However, Federal rallied for six runs in the top of the second to take the lead for good. Nick Karlen's two-run homer tied the game at 2-2. Mark Greenberg drew a bases-loaded walk to give Federal a 3-2 lead. Federal added three more runs on Ryan Byard's RBI single, Zane Schreiber's sacrifice fly and an error.

West End cut the deficit to 6-3 in the bottom of the second and made it a one-run game in the third on Stouffer's second two-run homer.

Federal padded its lead in the fourth on Greenberg's RBI groundout, making it 7-5, and then added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.

Schreiber took over for starter Ryan Kinter in the fourth and pitched three innings of shutout relief for Federal, allowing no hits while striking out five.
